FAQ

1.    Will Sandy Lyons be the person photographing our wedding?

Answer:  Yes. Sandy Lyons will be your wedding photographer for the day.  I do have an Assistant Photographer, who also photographs throughout the day as well.

2.    How would you describe your photographic style?

Answer:  My photographic style is a very balanced style combining both a traditional and photojournalistic approach. The photojournalistic side captures the unposed, spontaneous candids that show true emotions as they occur throughout the day. The traditional approach captures beautifully posed images of the bride & groom, the wedding party & guests. I usually blend these two styles of photography together but I am comfortable photographing in whatever style a couple prefers.

3.    What kind of cameras & equipment do you use?

Answer:  The majority of the weddings I photograph are shot with a FUJI S3 digital 12.1 mega pixel camera.  This professional digital SLR camera takes beautiful, high resolution images capable of producing very high quality enlargements bigger then most people would ever choose to order.  I also bring along a portable hard drive on location and back up images in between the photo shoots. This insures the wedding images are backed up and stored in more then one place prior to the completion of the wedding day.

4.      Do you offer Digital Photography or online proofing?

Answer:  Yes, we shoot all weddings using the latest in digital technology.  With the digital photography packages, online proofing is included at no extra charge & wedding images are viewable within 14 days after the wedding date.  This free online gallery allows you and your family & guests the ability to see the wedding images & order online.

5.    Do you have backup equipment?

Answer:  Yes. I have two identical camera systems which are ready to go in the unlikely event there is some kind of camera problem during shooting.

6.    Do you shoot in digital format or 35mm film?

Answer:  I shoot the entire wedding in digital format which is similar to 35mm.  The images are shot in jpeg fine mode which translate into high resolution, enlargement quality images.  The digital format is in my opinion is the most versatile and flexible format to use for an event such as a wedding. It allows me to see what I am photographing and make adjustments for background, composition & lighting and see the final result.  It also allows me to see when a person has blinked and gives me the opportunity to re-take the image before the moment is lost.

7.    What is the difference between film & digital?

Answer:  The difference between shooting with film & digital from a quality perspective is that with digital, the photographer sees the images right away on the LCD screen on the camera.  The images are very high quality and when printed on traditional photographic paper look sharper then a film print.  Film is a great medium as well but the photographer doesn’t see the final images until the film is processed.  There is more risk involved when using film since it can be damaged during it’s long journey while being developed into a print.  Film cameras are also more prone to mechanical failures.

8.    How many proofs will be in our album?

Answer:  The amount of proofs in your album varies depending on how many hours are in the package you select & if you select a package which includes proofs. The proof albums themselves hold about 300 prints.  With all of the packages, there is no limit to the amount of photos that are taken. An unlimited amount of photographs are taken to capture the day as it unfolds without any restrictions on quantity.

9.    Do we get to keep all of our proofs?

Answer:  Most packages include a selection of proofs to be printed and included in your proof album.  You keep all of the images that are taken on your wedding day and they are given to you on a DVD.

10.    Do we get to keep the film negatives or digital images?

Answer:  Yes, each package offered by Sandy Lyons Photography includes a DVD with all wedding images taken on the wedding day with a copyright release.

11.    Are Black & White & Sepia Toned prints available?

Answer:  Any digital image can be printed in black & white or sepia toned style at your request. I include a small amount of black & white or sepia toned prints in most packages so that you can select which poses or images you want in black & white or sepia after you receive your proofs.

12.    What time does your time start?

Answer:  My time begins at the location of your choice whether it is at the church, or with the bride getting ready prior to the ceremony. It’s your day so you decide where and what time you want the photographing to begin.

13.    Do you charge extra for travel or multiple locations?

Answer:  There is no extra charge for shooting at multiple locations on your wedding day.  No travel fees apply to any locations in Rhode Island or most of South Eastern Massachusetts.  A travel charge will be assessed at the discretion of the Photographer for weddings in the Boston Area, Cape Code, Connecticut and most areas outside of South Eastern Massachusetts.  Please call if you have questions on your particular location.

14.    How will you dress for our wedding?

Answer:  I will dress professionally so that I blend in with your guests. Usually a navy, black or gray jacket with pants suit so that I am comfortable and able to photograph in a number of situations effectively.

15.    Do you book more than one wedding a day?

Answer:  No. I only shoot one wedding a day that way I can focus my attention a hundred percent on the couple whose wedding I am photographing without worry about time constraints. This also allows me to be available for overtime if needed.

16.    Do you have an assistant?

Answer:  Yes. My Assistant helps keep track of the photo list during formals, helps the bride and wedding party with any special requests and photographs throughout the day.

17.    What happens if for some reason you are sick or in the hospital unable to photograph the wedding?

Answer:  I have never missed a wedding I was hired to photograph. However, in the unlikely event that I am unable to photograph the wedding due to some unforeseen tragedy, a competent and experienced wedding photographer with a similar photographic style will be provided at no additional charge.  You will also have the option to receive your money back and be released from the contract if you prefer.

18.    What happens in the event there is bad weather?

Answer:  We will certainly hope for the best, but the weather (no matter what it is) will be part of your day, and I will create images that incorporate these natural elements so that you will have beautiful photographs no matter what the circumstances.

19.    How long will it take to receive our proof album?

Answer:  The proof album will be done approximately 5 to 6 weeks after your wedding date.

20.    What is your payment policy?

Answer:  I require a $250 non-refundable deposit which is applied to whichever wedding photography package you decide to purchase. This deposit secures your wedding date so that no one else can contract my services out for that day. The balance of your package is due 30 days before the wedding.

21.    What is your cancellation policy?

Answer:  All initial and final deposits paid are non-refundable since I am turning away other clients for this date as soon as I receive your deposit.  In the event of a postponement, the amount of the deposits paid may be applied to a future wedding date if that date is available minus the initial $250 non - refundable deposit.

22.    What is the difference between proofs & prints?

Answer:  Proofs as it relates to the packages that are offered by Sandy Lyons Photography are the same as prints.  The proof size is 4 x 6 and is an actual photographic print printed in matte finish.

23.    Do you do Studio work?

Answer:  No, I am an event photographer who specializes mainly in photographing weddings.  My specialty encompasses being able to adapt & be creative in various types of locations without having the limits of a studio perspective.  Since you aren’t getting married in a studio, you will most likely want a photographer who has many years of experience working with different types of light including indoor, low light situations, shade, natural lighting and someone who is able to photograph beautifully in every season in different types of weather.  I also do environmental portraiture, engagement portraits, high school reunions, anniversaries & other special events.
